Working Abroad?
Risks and Foreign Liability

When OSU employees work or travel abroad, the State purchases Foreign Liability Insurance that covers International General Liability and Auto Liability, and International Voluntary Workers' Compensation. PRIOR to travel outside the U.S. and Canada, all OSU employees should:

  1. Consult the U.S. Foreign Travel Advisory and Warnings and review any public announcements and country sanctions. If the country of travel has warnings, notify the OSU Office of Risk Management to confirm coverage with insurance carrier.
  2. Register your trip with the OSU Office of Risk Management to receive your WorldRisk Travel Card and to confirm the Foreign Liability Insurance carrier has the country of travel listed.
  3. Notify the American Consulate. During a disaster overseas, American consular officers can assist in evacuation were that to become necessary if they know a person’s location.
  4. Obtain any required immunizations and required documents for the country of travel. Student Health Services may be able to help you with your required immunizations.

NOTE: If driving a vehicle while abroad, purchase the insurance options available for the vehicle.

When OSU students travel abroad, OSU does NOT provide liability coverage for the student; however, health insurance is required and available through International Programs.
